EVENT UPDATES & CLARIFICATIONS
NATIONALS DRILL CAMP
It could shape your
JROTC career forever

#1 - 3 August 2023: Page is wiped and ready for the 2024 event!
The SOP and scoresheets have become official and have been sent to SNI by the Area Managers. The other items less needed for early prep will be posted NLT December 10th. We post these first with the approval and push from the NJROTC Area Managers and after their review, they become official for the upcoming year. Good luck to all teams in the 2023-2024 school year!

#2 - 21 February 2024: Inspection will maintain ONLY THREE QUESTIONS for EVERY CADET!
The current SOP is a bit ambiguous on the number of questions each cadet will receive. This update will solidify that every cadet will receive THREE QUESTIONS to gain their individual cadet knowledge score as well as score other items on the sheet.

#3 - 21 February 2024: CHAIN OF COMMAND QUESTIONS/INFORMATION
There are only seven individuals listed in the Chain-of-Command in the Cadet Field Manual. Those personnel are listed on PG FM-79. Any questions asked by a judge in relation to the Chain-of-Command will be limited to those seven people. Those people are; 1)Commander-in-Chief, 2)Secretary of Defense, 3)Secretary of the Navy, 4)Chief of Naval Operations, 5)Commander Naval Education and Training Command, 6)Commander Naval Service Training Command and 7)the NJROTC Area Manager for your AREA.

#4 - 21 February 2024: CORRECT VERBIAGE to use for CHAIN OF COMMAND REPLIES
When answering questions during the unit personnel inspection pertaining to members in the chain-of-command,to gain a top score, the cadet should repeat the question, then identify the individual by title, first name and last name. For example:

Judge: Who is the Secretary of the Navy? Cadet: Sir/Ma'am, the Secretary of the Navy is, Secretary Carlos Del Toro
Judge: Who is the Commander-in-Chief? Cadet: Sir'Ma'am, the Commander-in-Chief is, President Joe Biden

#5 - 21 February 2024: RIFLE REQUIREMENT at the 2024 Navy Nationals
For better clarify, the rifle regulation has been re-written to say the following, "To compete at the NJROTC Nationals with arms the unit may utilize any rifle if it meets the minimum weight requirement of at least 8 lbs (the standard weight of a Daisy Drill Rifle). The judges will verify the weight of the rifles by inspecting a unit's rifles prior to entering the floor for an armed event."

#6 - 7 March 2024: UNIT INSPECTION PROCEDURES - NEW & IMPORTANT!
For better time savings, the entry & exit procedures have been modified. PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY and follow it to the letter:

1. On the direction of the Head Judge, the Unit Cadet Commander will march the unit into the inspection area 6 paces from the unit and centered, halting the unit centered on the Head Judge.

2. The Unit Cadet Commander will then command, "Left Face" and then execute an "About Face, Salute" and report to the Head Judge, "Sir/Ma'am, (school name) High School, from (city), (state) requests permission to Form for Inspection." The Head Judge will acknowledge the request.

3. The Unit Cadet Commander will then execute another about face and command, "Open Ranks March" however, they will not move to check the alignment of the unit. They will remain in their original position. When the unit has completed the "Open Ranks" movement and are done moving. The Unit Cadet Commander will command, "Ready Front, Cover" and execute an about face toward the Head Judge. They will then report, "Sir/Ma'am, (school name) High School is formed and ready for Inspection."

4. The Head Judge will then inspect the Cadet Commander. Upon completion of the inspection the Head Judge will tell the Cadet Commander to "proceed me through the inspection." The Head Judge will move to the Guide's position to inspect the Guide and the Cadet Commander, would position themselves in front of the 1st Squad Leader. They would then proceed through the inspection of the 1st Squad. The other judges , 2nd Squad - 5th Squad would conduct their inspection at that time as well. When the Head Judge inspects the last cadet in 1st Squad the Cadet Commander will step off behind the 1st Squad and assume a position 3 paces in front of the Guide, facing forward.

5. The Head Judge will then step in front of the Cadet Commander. The Cadet Commander will salute and say, "Sir/Ma'am, (school name) high school requests permission to exit the inspection area?" The Head Judge will acknowledge the request.

6. The Cadet Commander will then face left and command, "Close Ranks March" and step off to resume their position 6 paces and centered on the unit.

7. The Cadet Commander will then command, "Right Face, Forward March" and march the unit out of the inspection area. The final cadet leaving the inspection boundary will end the scoring of the inspection.

8. Schools should evaluate the U.P.I. / Friday diagram located in this folder to best understand and properly execute the written directions contained above.
