CURRENT UPDATES FOR THE FITNESS NATIONALS WEEKEND

#1 - 1 September, 2023: 2024 EVENT PAPERWORK POSTED
Event SOP, diagrams, and score sheets are now posted on the website. The site is slated to open at noon eastern time on 1 October. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis. Don't wait, register today to lock in your competition slot(s).

#2 - 17 April, 2024: MAJOR SOP UPDATE - ALL SCHOOLS AFFECTED - PLEASE REVIEW AND PRACTICE!
SNI has made the firm decision to use ELECTRONIC TIMING during the two beach events for the JROTC Fitness Nationals! This is an exciting step forward into the future. Each team will have a single RFID electronic device attached to a single cadet's ankle that will start and stop your electronic time. YOU will choose this cadet and can be changed between the two events. We will have standard analogue (stopwatch) timing as a backup. Using electronic timing will require a few small changes in the events - TEAMS MUST READ and UNDERSTAND and PRACTICE these changes to compete without penalty!

What does this mean? A few rules are going to change - so get ready now!

3K Beach Run:
FEMALE TEAMS will now maintain a 6' long, 2" thick Schedule 40 hard plastic drain pipe they will run with (a smaller, shorter and lighter version of the Male/Mixed pipe). Same rules will apply - teams must START and FINISH with all team members holding this pipe. No requirement for all team members to run with the pipe. Therefore, all teams will now have a drain pipe - Male and Mixed Teams will have a 10', 4" Schedule 40 plastic pipe, Female teams will have a 6', 2" Schedule 40 plastic pipe.

ALL TEAMS MUST ENSURE AT THE START: The CADET CLOSEST TO THE START/FINISH LINE in the front of the column of cadets holding the Schedule 40 pipe will maintain the timing chip. When the starter says "GO", this cadet will be the first to charge forward, break the plane of the starting line with all other cadets holding the pipe and running behind.

ALL TEAMS MUST ENSURE AT THE FINISH: The CADET in the LAST POSITION on the pipe AT THE FINISH must be the cadet must maintain the timing chip in the column of cadets holding the Schedule 40 pipe as they cross the finish line. The electronic timing (and the stopwatch clocks) will STOP when the last cadet holding the tube crosses the finish line. Failure to maintain the RFID Chip person in the LAST POSITION on the pipe will place a 10-second timing penalty on the team.

Physical Team Test:
ALL TEAMS will be executing the course with a small kettlebell in addition to any other items identified for transport within the SOP. Female teams maintain a single small, 5lb. kettlebell. All Male and Mixed teams will maintain a single 10lb. kettlebell (in addition to the slam ball as outlined in the SOP). The picture is here.

ALL TEAMS MUST ENSURE AT THE START: The team will select the correct Kettlebell for their team type. Their cadet holding the kettlebell and wearing the RFID chip will ALSO be the cadet through the tube FIRST (i.e., they are leading the column of cadets when the starter says "GO").

The kettlebell can be carried by OTHER CADETS throughout the course, can be swapped, cannot go in the deer sled, etc. - same rules apply as other carried item.

ALL TEAMS MUST ENSURE AT THE FINISH: The CADET in the LAST POSITION going through the tunnel AT THE FINISH for your team MUST BE THE CADET BOTH HOLDING THE KETTLEBELL AND WEARING THE RFID CHIP. The electronic timing (and the stopwatch clocks) will STOP when the last cadet holding the KETTLEBELL (AND WEARING THE CHIP) GOES THROUGH THE TUNNEL AND STEPS FORWARD TO CROSS THE START/FINISH LINE.

ALL TEAM RFID CHIPS will be turned in and collected by SNI after your final beach event for the day. They are yours to use - not to keep!

REMINDER TO ALL TEAMS! THE COMPETITION SCHEDULE WILL BE POSTED SEVEN DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT,
THEREFORE YOU WILL HAVE TIME TO SCHEDULE YOUR MEALS & ACTIVITIES AROUND YOUR COMPETITION TIMES!

THIS WILL BE THE CUT-OFF FOR LISTING ANY FURTHER SOP UPDATES/MODIFICATIONS
ON THIS PAGE - NO FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE POSTED!
ANY FURTHER CHANGES OF NOTE WILL BE CALLED/EMAILED FOR A MAJOR ISSUE
OR COVERED AT THE COMMANDER'S CALL ON ARRIVAL FOR MINOR ISSUES.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL JROTC FITNESS TEAMS!
